Welcome to my gallery

I agree with the adage that a picture says a thousand words - so I'll keep it short.

I've been involved in a lot of varied and interesting projects over the years working in a range of mediums. While going through my work I also found some cool pieces from before I set up Elastic Canvas so I thought why not include them, check out the archive below!

If you like what you see and think there is something I could do for you then I'm always here for a chat.

Holographic Display Systems

- Science has caught up with fiction

Once upon a time holograms were confined to scenes from films like ‘Star Wars’ or Back to the Future pt 2’ though with the advent of the new 3D era all that has changed.  A couple of years ago I was the creative director of a company that brought the wow factor of holograms to the POS & advertising market.  Why have a picture of your product on a poster when it you can have it move, float and amaze in glorious 3D???

Check out the video of one of our prototype units in action in my office.

Now I'm working on the hover board! If you want to find out more then get in touch.

New Art Exchange Hoardings Design by Matt Tooth

NAE Hoardings Design - Design to go on the hoardings of the NAE in Nottingham 2007

This piece I designed just before I set up Elastic Canvas in July 2007. The New Art Exchange is an international centre for the contemporary visual arts and crafts in Hyson Green, Nottingham with a focus on African, African Caribbean and South Asian Arts. The centre was being built in 2007 and through an art competition I got through to the finals to design what would go on the building's hoardings. The design celebrated the diversity of the area, Hyson green, in which the NAE was situated.

Unfortunately I lost a lot of work a couple of years ago when two Hard Drives crashed on me (lesson learnt, back-up several times) including the original design files for these. Luckily I had these two reduced files jpgs on my old website so here they are.

Ideas Factory C4 Advert & X-TA-C Music Video

- My first two animations

I created these two animations eight years ago (2004) at university as my major projects. They were actually the first animations I'd ever produced so was a bit of a gamble and was taking learning on the job to new extremes!

After many late nights, several beers and some seriously square eyes I was rather happy with the results.

The first was a TV advert for the now defunct C4 website to promote young people getting into the creative industries called 'The Ideas Factory'. The second was a music video for a dance music release on Wave Records called X-TA-C (I'm not sure what the title was subtly referencing??!)

Child Soldier Awarness Poster - Design by Matt Tooth

Child Soldier Poster - Raising awareness of the plight of child soldiers across the world

I designed this piece at university in 2004. The brief was to design a three colour poster that highlighted a political or charitable issue.

The number of children under the age of 18 who have been coerced or induced to take up arms as child soldiers is generally thought to be in the range of 300,000. This is a truly shocking reality and the only way of combating is through awareness and in turn action. The poster was designed in the style of instructions to a power tool to highlight the dehumanisation of the children and how they are literally used as tools of war.

To find out more about the children's plight but what also is being done to help them visit war child.
